MedAptus has hired a subject-matter nursing expert to help shape its new patient assignment software, ASSIGN for Nurses.

Lisa Quinn, PhD, RN, OCN joins the company’s marketing and product management team and will help ensure the software meets the needs of clinical nurses in hospitals throughout the U.S.

“We are very excited to have Lisa on the team,” said Dan Nottingham, vice president of product management. “Not only does she have a wealth of experience in investigative research, but she has been a clinical nurse at a number of different hospitals. Her insights will be critical in helping us fine tune our product so it really helps nurses with their patient assignments.”

ASSIGN for Nurses automatically and intelligently combines patient census data, nurse schedules and different variables, such as patient acuity, geography, and continuity of care, to match the right patients with the right nurses. Applying a proprietary rules-based “engine,” the software completes the patient assignment process task in minutes and then distributes the patient assignments electronically or on paper.

In addition to her duties at MedAptus, Quinn will continue her work in the School of Nursing at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, where she is an assistant professor. Her clinical experience includes work on acute adult medical oncology units at Massachusetts General Hospital, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, and George Washington University Hospital, along with working in different units at Jeanes Hospital. Quinn was also an assistant nurse manager at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Quinn is a published author and presenter. She holds her PhD in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Her dissertation was: Throughput and nurses’s workloads: Influences on nurse and patient outcomes. She also holds her MS in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, and she received her bachelor’s degree from Boston College’s School of Nursing in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

She is certified as a Registered Nurse, ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider and an American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Provider.
