PocketScript® and MedAptus charge capture enable data sharing on same wireless handheld device
Dallas, TX - February 10, 2005 - Zix Corporation (ZixCorp®), (Nasdaq: ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced the integration of its PocketScript e-prescribing application with MedAptus' electronic charge capture solution. Seamless integration not only enables physicians to use e-prescribing and charge capture from a single device, but also provides for the sharing of patient information and communication between the two applications, greatly improving physician productivity.
"Our collaboration empowers healthcare organizations with the flexibility to choose solutions that best suit their needs without having to worry about interoperability or additional hardware costs. Physicians also benefit tremendously as a result of streamlined workflow and real-time access to critical patient information when making treatment decisions," said Dennis Mitchell, chief executive officer for MedAptus. "With both the public and private sectors moving to e-healthcare, we're proud to join forces with a quality company that understands the value of interoperability as well as leveraging a practice's current IT investments."
PocketScript enables physicians to write and generate e-prescriptions through wireless handheld connectivity to pharmacies. It also includes real-time formulary information, drug interaction checking, a drug reference guide, and patient script history.
Integrated with a practice's existing scheduling, registration, and billing systems, MedAptus' electronic charge capture application supports coding and compliance at the point of care. In addition to professional charge entry and validation, physician-users are also able to manage daily schedules, review patient demographic and insurance information, retrieve patient-specific problems and procedures, dictate notes, order lab tests, and review results.
Lahey Clinic, a world-renowned healthcare system in Burlington, Mass., and a joint customer, will begin piloting the integrated solution and exemplifies the vision that led to its development. "The functionality achieved through the integrated applications enables us to advance our goals of increased patient safety and enhanced clinician accuracy and efficiency within the daily business workflow," said Linda Cagle, senior vice president, support services for Lahey Clinic. "The significance of having both e-prescribing and charge capture on one handheld device at the point of care adds value and demonstrates our organization's incremental approach to digital healthcare."
PocketScript is designed with an open architecture that provides for interoperability with numerous other information systems. Using industry standards to facilitate health data exchange, other applications can be easily integrated with it.
"We know that healthcare technology adoption will happen in an incremental fashion. e-Prescribing is the first step in this process because it is easy to deploy and delivers returns quickly," said Rick Spurr, president and chief operating officer for ZixCorp. "ZixCorp will continue to partner with leading health information systems, such as EMRs, PMSs and other mobile applications, to help our customers down the digital journey. Like MedAptus, ZixCorp aims to provide customers with the flexibility to choose the solution that best fits their needs. The MedAptus relationship is strategic to our response to the changing marketplace and we will continue to invest in opportunities that deliver added value to our customers."
More information about this capability will be available at the HIMSS Conference and Exhibition in Dallas Feb. 14 -17 in the Zix Corporation booth, #6448.
