MedAptus V4.1 To Ensure HIPAA Compliance

Enhanced Functionality Offers Flexible and Comprehensive HIPAA-Compliant Solution

Boston, MA - November 05, 2003 - MedAptus is proud to announce the general availability of v4.1 of it Charges in Hand™ product. In response to the Electronic Transactions and Code Sets requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, MedAptus has perfected a release aimed to streamline HIPAA compliant billing and insure the capture of all required data elements.

"Technology is playing a major role in the implementation of HIPAA," remarked Lance Baldo, MD, Chief Medical Officer of MedAptus. "We see HIPAA as an opportunity to further broaden the applicability of electronic data capture."

The ANSI ASC X12N 837 professional healthcare claims document outlines the necessary fields and field properties required to submit HIPAA compliant claims. Of particular interest to MedAptus and its clients are the so-called "HIPAA Situational Fields" which are necessary for compliant claims submission in a variety of clinical circumstances. In new V4.1, it is these fields that can be used and modified based on the needs of individual clients. In addition, MedAptus did a thorough, yearlong analysis of the universe of situational fields and ships a standard list with v4.1.

"Any company involved in the electronic capture of data for billing purposes is going to have to be prepared to capture the HIPAA situational elements," remarked Todd Frech, a senior consultant with Ocius Medical Informatics. "Any system that is unable to capture these elements is just simply not HIPAA-compliant. MedAptus is well-positioned to deal with the delicate data flow required of HIPAA."
