Florida Heart Group and Los Angeles Cardiology Associates Choose MedAptus for Electronic Charge Capture

Solution Offers Unparalleled Functionality, Flexibility and Documented Financial Benefit

Boston - November 09, 2006 - MedAptus®, provider of point-of-care technologies to the healthcare industry, today announced that its practice-proven Electronic Charge Capture has been selected by highly prestigious cardiology groups from coast-to-coast. Florida Heart Group, headquartered in Orlando, has been actively using MedAptus’ Physician Workstation since August while Los Angeles Cardiology Associates is currently undergoing implementation of the company’s handheld-based solution. Each practice includes approximately twenty cardiologists and a number of mid-level providers.

Integrated with existing scheduling, billing and electronic medical records systems, MedAptus’ Charge Capture supports professional coding and compliance at the point-of-care. As a result, historically manual billing processes are streamlined while net cash is radically improved; the vast majority of MedAptus physician-users experience an annual financial benefit of $20,000, at minimum, starting in the first year of adoption.

Since Florida Heart Group was founded in 1979, it has evolved into one of Florida’s premier providers of comprehensive cardiology care. The group selected MedAptus as an automated, fully integrated front-end to its athenahealth practice management solution.

“For our practice, replacing a manual encounter form with MedAptus’ Electronic Charge Capture has allowed us to streamline workflow and also provided us with FTE savings after only three-months. In addition, our physicians now have a reliable, user-friendly way to view their schedules and rapidly capture charges,” stated Joan Bryan, practice administrator at Florida Heart Group. She went on to add that the group will soon start to use Physician Workstation for inpatient charge capture at Florida Hospital as well.

Los Angeles Cardiology Associates (LACA) was founded twenty years ago as a regional referral practice for cardiovascular services. The group has consistently taken a leadership role in research, physician education and early implementation of new technology. LACA’s choice of MedAptus is in line with its history of innovation; system usage is expected to lower billing costs, which should reduce the impact of the upcoming Medicare payment cuts.

“Concerns around revenue leakage, resulting from lost inpatient opportunities in particular, are the primary reasons our practice sought a point-of-care charge capture solution. We expect that in addition to eliminating lost charges, usage of the MedAptus tool will improve coding accuracy, driving compliance gains as well,” said Dana Hunt, director of finance and facilities at Los Angeles Cardiology Associates. “As for why we selected MedAptus as our vendor of choice, it really came down to know-how and an impressive track record of customer results.”

MedAptus reports that over the last six months, the company has seen a tremendous increase in demand for its Charge Capture from the cardiology specialty. “Given the volume of procedures performed by cardiologists, the potential for lost revenue is higher than in most specialties. But we have been very successful to-date working with a number of cardiology groups to ensure functionality and workflow capture all reimbursable services,” said Carlos Escobar, vice president for sales and marketing at MedAptus. “We are excited to be working with both Florida Heart Group and Los Angeles Cardiology Associates and anticipate further expanding our cardiology customer list in the months to come.”
